Garcia, a 2019 graduate from the University of Michigan, joined head coach Justin Vasquez's coaching staff prior to the 2019-20 season. Aside from competing for two seasons as a Wolverine, Garcia swam at the University of Arizona for the two years prior to that. The Holland native is also a two-time participant at the United States Olympic Trials in 2012 and 2016.
At the height of her time in Ann Arbor, Garcia was a two-time College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) All-American. Both came in 2019 for the 200 yard medley relay and 400 yard medley relay. The former backstroker was also named Second-Team All-Big Ten that season to go with an Academic All-Big Ten nod as well as back-to-back UM Athletic Academic Achievements in 2018 and 2019. Her 2018 campaign also featured a CSCAA Honorable Mention All-American spot for the 400 yard medley relay.
During her time with the Wildcats, Garcia was a two-time CSCAA All-American (2017: 200 yard freestyle relay and 200 yard medley relay), two-time CSCAA Honorable Mention All-American (2017: 400 yard freestyle relay and 400 yard medley relay), two-time CSCAA Scholar All-American (2016-17), and member of the PAC 12 All-Academic Team (2017).
Garcia prepped at Holland High School where she holds three school records, was an eight-time MHSAA State Champion, 14-time All-American, and finalist for the 2015 Detroit Athletic Club Michigan Athlete of the Year.
Her mother, Shawnda, played basketball at Mount Mercy College (1988-92) and father, Mike, played baseball there as well (1988-90).
