John McClure

After a five-year hiatus from the program, John McClure returned to the men's wrestling coaching staff in 2022-23 after the program reset the entire lineup.

McClure was named the program’s first-ever assistant coach for the inaugural 2014-2015 season. In DU’s first season, he assisted in producing two NCWA National Champions in freshman teammates Zach Yates at 125lbs and Glenn Geurink at 285lbs.

In College, McClure wrestled at Central Michigan University during his redshirt freshman season. Following his redshirt season, John transferred to Eastern Michigan University, graduating from EMU with a Bachelor Degree in Communications and a Minor in Athletic Coaching in 2010. While at EMU, he was a Team Captain in his junior and senior seasons. McClure was also the 197lb Mid-American Conference Champion, NCAA D1 National Qualifier and was awarded the Joel Smith Award as the Most Valuable Wrestler in his senior campaign in 2009.

In High School, McClure also had a standout high school career at nearby Holland’s West Ottawa High School, where he was an OK Red Conference Champion and an MHSAA All-State his senior year. In addition, he was also a Greco State Champion and earned Greco Roman All-American honors in 2004 at Junior Nationals in Fargo, ND.

John currently resides in Holland, Michigan with his wife Chelsea, and works in Manufacturing Engineering in the Aerospace Industry.
