Davenport University Athletics

Andrew Downer enters his second season with the Davenport baseball program, where he will be primarily assisting with the pitching staff. Along with coaching, Downer will be working towards earning his MBA in Leadership Strategies at DU. 

A Caledonia native, Downer is a graduate of Olivet College where he finished his playing career in 2022, and went on to lead the Comets in Appearances and K/9 as a relief pitcher during his senior season. While at Olivet, Downer earned degrees in Insurance/Risk Management and Coaching.  
 
Downer began coaching travel baseball and training athletes during his freshman year of college in 2018, and has coached teams aged 11-17u with both the Elite and Sluggers Sports Academy travel organizations in Grand Rapids. He also continues to work with Sluggers Sports Academy as an instructor. Most recently, Downer served as Pitching Coach at Caledonia High School, helping lead the Fighting Scots to a District Championship and Regional Championship appearance in 2023.

Downer has also spent time working with NCSA College Recruiting, where he helped hundreds of high school and junior college athletes from around the world navigate the baseball recruiting process. 

Downer resides in Caledonia and enjoys watching baseball, training athletes, and spending time with his family and dog.
