Caitlin Cardenas

Caitlin Cardenas joined Davenport University Athletics in April of 2026 as the head coach of the women’s wrestling program, bringing a dynamic blend of coaching experience, competitive success and student-athlete development.

With over four years of collegiate coaching experience and nine years as a competitor, Cardenas has established herself as a rising leader in the sport. Most recently serving as an assistant coach at Frostburg State University, she played an integral role in building a nationally competitive program.

During her tenure, Cardenas helped develop 17 regional placers, including six regional champions and finalists, while guiding 12 student-athletes to national qualification across NCWWC and NCAA competition. Her impact also extended internationally, contributing to the development of multiple athletes competing at the UWW Beach Wrestling national and world levels, while mentoring more than eight NWCA Scholar All-Americans.

Cardenas holds a USA Wrestling/UWW International Coaching Certification (Bronze Level) and is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, showcasing her deep technical knowledge and commitment to the sport. In addition to her work on the mat, she is currently completing her Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling Psychology, equipping her with a unique approach to supporting the mental and emotional well-being of her student-athletes.

Known for her emphasis on culture, accountability and holistic development, Cardenas is set to lead Davenport women’s wrestling into its next chapter, with a strong focus on recruiting, competitive success and building a program rooted in excellence both on and off the mat.
