Cardinals Use Timely Attack to Down Panthers

Oct. 25, 2007

Box Score

The last time Concordia and Davenport met, the outcome was decided by the minimum amount of two points each in every game. Tonight's match started out the same as each team split the first two games before the Cardinals pulled away in games three and four to post a 3-1 victory.

Game one started out as an offensive showdown as both teams held their side out pretty easily, but Concordia used a few Panthers errors to pull out the 30-28 victory. Davenport came back strong in game two and posted a match high 18 kills on just 39 attempts but needed a late rally to pull out the 35-33 win. Game three started out in the Cardinals favor as they built an early 4-1 lead and were able to hold that until DU rallied to trail by only one, 21-20. Concordia then exceuted to perfection as they out-scored the home team 9-4 to take a 2-1 advantage. The loss in the previous game seemed to rattle the Panthers as they were unable to get anything going and Concordia took the match with a 30-23 victory.

The loss drops DU to 10-26 on the year and 4-8 in conference play.  Amanda Schneider led a very balanced offensive attack for the Panthers and she posted 12 kills and was closely followed by Autumn Williams' 11 kills.  Kayla Vandermolen dished out 41 assists and the Panthers received a spark from Carrie Bass with 4 service aces. DU will return to action next Tuesday when they host Siena Heights University at Northpointe Christian High School beginning at 7:00.
