Dearborn, Mich. - The match between UM Dearborn and Davenport on Tuesday night could not have gotten much closer. Dearorn was able to pull out sets two and four for a close 4-set win. The loss drops DU to 6-15 on the year and 0-3 in WHAC play.
Looking for their first conference win of the season, Davenport started the match awful as the host Wolves dominated the first set 25-11. DU rebounded in set two and had many chances to pull away but were unable to as they fell by the slimmest of margins 25-23. The serving game (both offensivle and receiving) hurt the Panthers throughout the set as Dearborn took the 2-0 lead.
Davenport jumped out to a quick lead in the third set and led 24-16 at one point before watching the Wolves rally to get within 24-23 until DU finally won the set on a sideout. DU then needed to win set four to force a fifth and deciding game but were unable to as they fell 25-22 in another back and forth set.
Megan Vanderhyde and Heather Deal led the attack on Tuesday night with 9 and 8 kills respectively and Kayla Vandermolen dished out 30 assists. The loss drops DU to 6-15 on the year and 0-3 in WHAC play and they will stay on the road for their next match when they take on Concordia University on Thursday.
