Box Score

Livonia, Mich. - NAIA powerhouse Madonna University proved tonight why they are ranked in the Top 10 as they used a balanced offense to down Davenport in three sets. The loss drops DU to 11-18 on the year and 2-5 in the WHAC.

Coming off one of its toughest losses of the season last Thursday at Cornerstone, the Panthers hit the road for the last time this season in league play only to find themselves up against the #7 ranked Madonna Crusaders. Davenport got off to a solid start in set one and with a Megan Vanderhyde kill evened the set at 10-10. Madonna then showed it grit as they racked off the next 7 points which led to a decisive 25-16 victory.

Set two was again dominated by the Crusaders offense as they pounded 13 kills of their 25 points and only allowed DU to post 14. The Panther struggled on offense as they connected on only 5 kills and hit for a -.038 in set two. Knowing they had to put together a complete set in the third, DU again got off to a fast start and led Madonna 14-13 which forced the Crusaders to take a timeout. Again, the 7th ranked team in the country responded and rattled off the next 6 points to take control which led to a 25-16 victory in the set and match.

Vanderhyde led the offense with 12 kills, but no other Panther was able to post above 4.  Kayla Vandermolen posted 21 assists on the night and Heather Deal led the defense with 7 digs.

Davenport will finally host a game this Thursday as they will take on Aquinas College at Caledonia High School at 7:00 PM. They will then play host to Indiana Tech on October 21 in the first ever game inside the new Davenport University Student Center.
