Oct. 21, 2008

Box Score

Grand Rapids, Mich. - In a match that will make history as the first ever event inside the DU Student Center, Davenport was unable to pull off the upset of Indiana Tech. The Warriors used a balanced offense to defeat the Panthers 25-21, 25-19, 28-26.

Davenport University opened its Student Center to all students on Monday and officially opened the floor on Tuesday night as they fell in straight sets to #17 Indiana Tech. The Warriors got off to a fast start in the opening set and used a very efficient offense to post the 25-21 victory after the Panthers roared back to make it interesting down the stretch.

Set two was much closer throughout but DU could not put together enough solid points in a row to make a dent in the Tech lead in the late teens. The Warriors posted their lowest kill total of the match with only 14, but still came away with a 25-19 victory and a 2-0 lead.

DU saved the third set for their best and had numerous chances to close it out and force a fourth, but after leading 23-20, watched the Warriors rack off four straight points. DU held its own on the side out and won the next point as well to force Tech into a timeout. Unfortunately the Panthers were unable to put a ball away late and Tech rallied for a 28-26 win.

Leading the offense for DU was Megan Vanderhyde who posted 10 kills and Courtney DePriest anchored the defense with 14 digs. DU hit just .102 on the match compared to the Warriors' .235.

Davenport will again be at home on Thursday night when they host UM Dearborn at 7:00 PM.
