Panthers Push #10 Madonna to Four Sets

Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Panthers began their final home match with a huge first set victory over Madonna, but the #10 ranked Crusaders held their ground and escaped with a 3-1 victory. The loss ends the regular season for DU at 15-25.

After a thrilling victory over Cornerstone on Tuesday, Davenport entered tonight's match with NAIA powerhouse Madonna with added confidence and it lifted the home team to a 25-20 victory in set one. Madonna rallied from behind in the second set and came away with an identical winning score of 25-20 to even the match.

Sets three and four were where the Crusaders showed why they have been ranked in the Top 10 in the NAIA all year as they withstood many Panther rallies to take the match in four sets.

For the match, Kailey Schultz led the offense posting 12 kills and was followed in kills by Autumn Williams (9) and Megan Vanderhyde and Joyce Larioza who each posted 8. Kayla Vandermolen ran a very efficient offense finishing the match with 41 asists and Courtney DePriest held together the defense with 16 digs.

Davenport has qualified for the WHAC Tournament which will get underway on Tuesday, November 11 when they will travel to #4 seed Cornerstone University. The match time has not been set as of Thursday night.
