Livonia, Mich. - The women's volleyball team entered the Julie Martin Memorial Tournament hosted by Madonna University after splitting their four matches last weekend. The Panthers continued that theme as they went 1-1 during Friday's play.
In the opening match of the tournament, DU played a non-conference match with host and #10 ranked Madonna University. The Crusaders used a balanced attack along with a stellar defense to down the Panthers in three sets, 25-14, 25-12, 25-15.
DU posted 21 kills in the match led by Freshman Heather Deal's (Ravenna, MI) 6 kills. Sophomore Autumn Williams (Fruitport, MI) and Kailey Schultz (Grand Haven, MI) each contributed 4 kills in the match. Courtney DePriest (Grand Rapids, MI) posted a team high 9 digs for the Panthers.
Davenport had to quickly rebound in match two as they would immediately turn around and play the University of Windsor. The Panthers jumped out to a quick lead and took set one 25-21. The Panthers struggled in set two as Windsor has their way at the net and DU dropped the set 25-23. The Panthers quickly regrouped and cruised in both sets three and four to win the match with 25-21 and 25-15 victories.
With the split, DU now stands at 4-6 on the year as they will take on Cedarville and Spring Arbor tomorrow morning.
