Panthers Fall to Cornerstone in Four Sets

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - In their first match-up of the year, Davenport couldn't hang on as they fall in four sets to Cornerstone University. After losing the first two sets DU rallied in the third with a 26-24 victory but fell in the fourth, 19-25.

In set one the scoring went back and forth between both teams, with the score ending in a CU 27-25 victory. Cornerstone then continued to pick away at the Panthers as they won set two, 25-19.

Davenport would then rally in the third and pull away a 26-24 victory to force a fourth set. The momentum would not last however as the Golden Eagles came away with a fourth set, 25-19, victory to win the match.

The Panthers offense was led by Ashley Penny (New Hudson, Mich.), Kassie Graves (White Cloud, Mich.), and Amy VanEns (Lowell, Mich.) who combined for 41 out of 59 kills for DU.

Davenport is now 9-10 on the year and 3-3 in conference play. They will wrap up their first round of WHAC play on Thursday when they host Indiana Tech at the DU Student Center for a 7:00pm match.
