MARION, Ind. - Davenport traveled to Marion, Ind. today to take part in the 2-day Wildcat Invitational and came away with a sweep of Ohio Dominican and Indiana Wesleyan on day one. The two wins lift DU to 11-11 on the year as they will take on St. Xavier and #23 Taylor on Saturday.

The Panthers got off to a strong start in the opening match against Ohio Dominican as they ended their three match losing streak with a convincing 3-0 (25-22, 25-8, 25-18) win. Sophomore Ashley Penny (New Hudson, Mich.) was a dominating force at the net as she finished with six kills and 11 blocks (9 assist and 2 solo).

Also helping Davenport against the ODU Panthers were Kassie Graves (White Cloud, Mich.) who finished with 7 kills, Courtney DePriest (Grand Rapids, Mich.) who finished with 14 digs and Kayla Vandermolen (Cedar Springs, Mich.) who finished with 24 assists.

In the nightcap against the host Wildcats, DU again played a solid all-around match as they defeated Indiana Wesleyan for the first time in school history in straight sets (25-22, 25-18, 25-22).

Vandermolen ran a very efficient offense as the Panthers hit for .253 as they posted 38 kills in the three sets. Defensively, they were very strong as well, as they combined to post 35 digs in the match.

No single Panther found double-digits in kills but six different players had at least five kills as Amy VanEns (Lowell, Mich.), Joyce Larioza (Fowlerville, Mich.) and Kelse Moon (Fremont, Mich.) led the way with 7 each.

DU will return to the court on Saturday at 12:00 PM when they take on St. Xavier University (Ill.) before taking on #23 Taylor University at 2:00 PM.
