6-5 Overtime Win over Michigan State Lifts DU Back into GMHL Lead

Nov. 20, 2009

Box Score

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Davenport scored the final three goals of the game including the game winner by Phillip Tesoriero in overtime to defeat Michigan State 6-5 on Friday night. DU is now 12-7 on the year and 4-1 in league play.

Needing a win to stay in contention for their 5th straight GMHL crown, the Panther started strong at Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing as they got opening period goals from Bobby Collar (Brighton, Mich.) and Adam Thomas (Kentwood, Mich.).

After the Spartans scored to make it a 2-1 early in the second period, Marc Thompson (Traverse City, Mich.) gave the Panthers a 3-1 lead with his team leading 19th goal of the year.

Michigan State then rattled off four straight goals to take a 5-3 lead and looked poised to take a two game lead in the GMHL.

Davenport had other ideas though as they got two goals from Sean McWhorter (Lansing, Mich.) to tie the game at 5 as the two teams headed to overtime.

Phillip Tesoriero (Boulder, Colo.) then scored only his second goal of the season as it proved to be the game winner in the 6-5 win.

The Panthers are now 12-7 on the year and 4-1 in the GMHL which puts them in the driver's seat for the fifth straight regular season crown.

DU will host Liberty University who has still not been defeated on the year on Sunday at 12:00 PM at Patterson Ice Center.
