#25 Davenport Improves to 15-5 with 78-59 Win over Madonna

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport will enter their WHAC showdown with #18 Siena Heights Saturday night on a high note after defeating Madonna 78-59 on Wednesday night in the Student Center. DU is now 15-5 on the year and 4-0 in league action.

Davenport scored the first six points of the game and used a 24-4 run in the opening minutes to down the Crusaders for their fourth straight win. DU got a balanced effort in scoring as four players found double-digits led by Nathan Cox (Flushing, Mich.) with 15.

Cox, Mario Scott (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and James Nelson (New Haven, Mich.) started the scoring run for DU with the first six points of the game which was immediately followed by an 18-0 run over the next 6:43 to open a 20-point margin.

Madonna did counter with their own 15-6 run but DU managed to up the lead back to 16 at halftime. The Crusaders did not cool off opening the second half as they chipped away at the lead and got to within eight (43-35) with 15:37 to play.

DU then buckled down and scored 31 of the games' next 39 points to open a 31 point lead (74-43) in which they were fueled by scoring from eight different players.

Darryl Nobles (Detroit, Mich.) started the run with back to back buckets and it was finished with a 3-point field goal from Nathan Cox.

The lead would get as large as 32 on a free-throw from Max Prendergast with 4:01 remaining as the final minutes was again dominated by the Crusaders shooters finishing with the final outcome of 78-59.

Madonna actually shot a better percentage (43%) compared to Davenport (41%), but DU got 23 points from the free-throw line compared to only seven from the visiting Crusaders.

Nathan Cox inched his way closer to 1000 career points with a game high 15 points on 5/11 shooting. Lorenzo Ecford (Chicago, Ill.) came off the bench to score 12 points while James Nelson and Gabe VanderJagt each chipped in with 11.

DU set a new student center and school record with 24 steals on the night and forced the Crusaders into 33 turnovers.

#25 Davenport will travel to #18 Siena Heights on Saturday in a battle of two of the top three teams in the WHAC. Game time is set for 7:30 PM in Adrian and it can be heard live on the DAN.

Post-Game Notes Davenport set a new school record and broke the old Student Center record of 20 by posting 24 steals on Wednesday night...Nathan Cox's 15 points puts him just 22 points away from becoming the first 1000 point scorer in school history...The win marks the 14th league win in their last 18 WHAC games dating back to last season
