GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport earned its 6th victory in row today when they defeated Indiana Tech 95-62 at the DU Student Center. The Panthers are now 18-5 on the year and 7-0 in WHAC play.
Davenport got off to a slow start in the first half as they trailed at the 14:07 mark, 6-5. The one point lead for the Warriors would be their only lead of the game as DU went on a 15-0 sparked by a field goal from Max Prendergast (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and a three pointer by Gabe VanderJagt (Rockford, Mich.).
The Panthers would push that lead to as many as 23, and went into the locker room at halftime leading 42-20. Lorenzo Ecford (Chicago, Mich.) would have 9 points at half, while DU was 10-11 from the free-throw line.
The momentum for the Panthers would continue in the second half as the Panther defense would force 15 Indiana Tech turnovers and never led by less than 22 points.
James Nelson (New Haven, Mich.) scored 11 points in the second half to put him as the high scorer for the game with 19. Ecford chipped in 13 of his own along with 10 rebounds, while teammate Darryl Nobles (Detroit, Mich.) added 14 off the bench.
The DU victory will set up a match-up of the only two undefeated teams in the WHAC on Wednesday, January 27th. The Panthers will travel to cross-town rival Cornerstone, who is currently ranked #13 in the latest NAIA polls, for a 7:30 tip-off. Tune in on Wednesday for live radio coverage on "The DAN".
