Grand Rapids, Mich. - Erin Hillary scored three times on Saturday leading the Panthers to a 64-7 rout of Michigan State. After winning back-to-back games, Davenport's record now sits at 3-1 and they will travel to Columbus, Ohio next Saturday to take on Ohio State for a 6:00 PM start.
After a last minute, 30-27 comeback win last weekend against Miami (OH), the Panthers didn't want to waste any time building a lead against the Spartans. Adam Ries (Morenci, Mich.) got the Panthers started quickly with a try less than three minutes into the game and seven minutes later, Erin Hillary (Grand Rapids, Mich.) added his first try of three on the day.
After Michigan State got on the board with a try, the Panthers closed the half with three straight by Fray Hatfield (Mishawaka, Ind.), Gabe Gallagher (Traverse City, Mich.), and Lance Cavanaugh (Toledo, Ohio) to lead the Spartans 33-7.
Hatfield got Davenport started in the second half with his second try and Ryan Hargraves (Grand Blanc, Mich.) added a try a few minutes later.
Hillary and Gallagher each added another try before Hillary scored his third of the day with 6:29 left in the game.
The kicking game was also solid on n a windy day as Jean Pierre Eloff (Pritoria, South Africa) made 7 of 10 conversions.
The win improves the Panthers record to 3-1 on the year. The Panthers will travel to Columbus, Ohio next Saturday, October 9 to take on Ohio State for a 6:00 PM start.
