GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport picked up their 20th win of the year on Saturday as they went 1-1 on the second day of the CU Classic hosted by Cornerstone.  DU played a pair of 5-set matches as they defeated Bethel (Ind.) 3-2 and lost to Goshen (Ind.) 2-3).  Davenport is now 20-15 on the year.

After picking up a school record 19th win late last night over St. Francis in five sets, the Lady Panthers returned to the court this morning and jumped out on top 1-0 (25-21) against the Pilots of Bethel College.  DU then struggled midway through the second and fell 19-25.  The Pilots then ran off a fast start in the third to take control and they never looked back winning 25-17.

Facing their second straight 2-1 deficit against an MCC opponent, the Lady Panthers rallied in the fourth and dominated for most of the set before holding on 25-23.  DU then picked up their second straight five set win with a 15-13 victory in the decider.

Sophomores Kassie Graves (White Cloud, Mich.) and Brittany Bott (Hudsonville, Mich.) were outstanding for Davenport as they finished with a combined 31 kills on 75 attempts.  Kayla Vandermolen (Cedar Springs, Mich.) posted a team high 42 assists and Courtney DePriest (Grand Rapids, Mich.) finished with 21 digs.

The second match featured a Maple Leafs team led by returning first team All-American Penny Acayo.  Davenport controlled the first two sets winning in convincing fashion 25-11, 25-19.  A late run in the third by Goshen allowed them to stay in the match as they pulled out the 25-23 win.  The momentum seemed to stay on Goshen's side as they convincingly won set number four 25-16 to force a fifth set which they eventually won 15-8.

Three different Lady Panthers finished with double-digit kills led by Ashley Penny (New Hudson, Mich.) and Brittany Bott (Hudsonville, Mich.) who each posted 16.  Vandermolen dished out 52 assists and Graves led the team in digs with a career high 24.

The split leaves Davenport at 20-15 on the year with their final regular season match of the year slated for Tuesday at Siena Heights.  Davenport will enter the WHAC Tournament the following week as the #5 seed and will play on the road in the opening round against the #4 seed who is yet to be determined.
