GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Michael Ricketts scored the first of three second half goals today as he led the Panthers to a 3-1 victory over visiting Siena Heights.  With the win, Davenport improves to 9-5-0 overall and 2-0-0 in league play.  DU hosts Indiana Tech on Wednesday at 4:00pm.

After opening WHAC play last weekend with a big 1-0 win at Madonna University, the Panthers returned home today to face Siena Heights.  Davenport improved to 9-3 all-time against the Saints with an impressive 3-1 win on Saturday.

The first half saw each team put up great scoring chances with the first coming from the Saints midway through, but DU keeper Kevin O'Brien made an outstanding save to keep the game scoreless.  DU finished the first half with an 8-3 edge in shot attempts, but the scoreboard still read 0-0.

Coming out with much more energy in the first 10-12 minutes of the second half finally paid off for the Panthers when Michael Ricketts (Tamworth, England) took a lofted ball from Bryant Roos (Kentwood, Mich.) and beat the SHU keeper to notch the game's first goal and put Davenport up 1-0 at the 57:28 mark.

The Panthers continued to apply the pressure for the remainder of the half and posted two more goals from Jordan Richards (Northampton, England) at 79:12 and John Girasoli (Glasgow, Scotland) in the 83rd minute to go up 3-0.

Siena Heights did manage to get on the board in the final two minutes when a lofted ball just sailed over O'Brien's head but the game was already well in favor of the Panthers by then as DU claimed it ninth win of the season.

Michael Ricketts (Tamworth, England) finished with a goal and assist on the day to lead DU in scoring and Kevin O'Brien (Cork, Ireland) finished with two saves, both of them coming at critical times for the Panthers.

Davenport will play host to defending WHAC tournament champion Indiana Tech on Wednesday, october 13 at the Turf Field.  Kickoff is set for 4:00pm.  You can listen to the game live on the DAN and follow along with live stats as well.
