Warriors pick up their 17th straight win

Box Score

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport had hoped to end the #13 ranked Warriors 16-match winning streak but Indiana Tech flexed their muscles after a close first set to down DU 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-16),  Davenport (13-10) will host Cornerstone on Tuesday at 7:00pm.

Davenport got off to a slow start in the opening set as IT took a quick 7-3 lead but the Lady Panthers responded with four of the next five points behind two kills from Kassie Graves (White Cloud, Mich.) to pull within one at 8-7.  Again the Warriors responded with a run of their own as they pushed the margin to eight at 18-10.

DU kept battling and Ashley Penny (New Hudson, Mich.) picked up two kills of her own as they used a 12-5 run to bring the score to 23-22 in favor of Indiana Tech.  That would be as close as the Lady Panthers would get as they eventually won 25-23.

The loss seemed to take almost all of the energy out of the home team in the start of the second set as Indiana Tech ran out to 10-1 lead and increased it to as many as 14 (20-6) as they took a two sets to none lead 25-15.

The start of the third set was much different than the previous as Davenport got off to a solid start.  The two teams traded points for the first 11 points with DU getting sideouts from Ashley Penny (New Hudson, Mich.), Kassie Graves (White Cloud, Mich.) and Amy VanEns (Lowell, Mich.).  Unfortunately their last lead of the game would be at 10-9 as the Warriors scored went up 14-11 on an attack error for from DU.

Davenport did manage to tie the score at 15 but Indiana Tech was too tough down the stretch as they won 25-16 and claimed their 17th straight win overall and 10th this year in conference play.

Junior Amy VanEns (Lowell, Mich.) led Davenport with 12 kills while hitting at a .296 clip and Kassie Graves (White Cloud, Mich.) collected nine kills.  Graves also led the Panthers in digs with 10 and Kayla Vandermolen (Cedar Springs, Mich.) posted 27 assists.

Davenport will be in action at home on Tuesday when they welcome Cornerstone University for a 7:00pm match.  Live audio and stats will be available for the match.
