Sunday Live Broadcast
YPSILANTI, Mich. - #2 Davenport hits the road for two GLCHL games this weekend at Eastern Michigan and then will host #4 Oklahoma on Sunday at Patterson Ice Center. The Panthers will be looking to add to their 15-3 overall record and 4-1 mark in league play.
Assistant Coach
Phil Sweeney's breakdown of the weekend:
Eastern Michigan
The Eagles from Eastern Michigan have struggled as of late only winning one of their previous five games at home, but have scored 16 of their 23 goals at home. Eastern is led in scoring by Gary Astolos and Jeffrey Scherrer. Both players have double digit points as well as two goals each on the power play. Eastern Michigan is very disciplined as they do not take a lot of penalties. The Panthers have to focus on each game and play hard and not look forward to the game on Sunday against Oklahoma
Keys to Friday and Saturday
- Jump on them early, do not give them any confidence
- Play 5 on 5, do not give them a chance to score on the power play
- Play aggressive on the fore check, smother their D
- Use our overall skill by controlling the puck
- Use our forwards speed to dominate the defense
Oklahoma
On Sunday the Sooners of Oklahoma come to Grand Rapids to play against the Panthers. Oklahoma will be playing its fourth game of the weekend as Davenport will be playing their 3rd. Oklahoma did have last weekend off, while DU played three games, so neither team will be without fatigue. Davenport has to play 60 minutes against a very talented Oklahoma team. DU dominated the Sooners on the power play on the last meeting scoring almost all of their goals against OU with an extra man advantage. Oklahoma will be looking to play DU 5 on 5. Oklahoma is loaded up front and on defense. Last time the two teams faced off, the Panthers did not have to play against Augie Hoffman, who may be one of the best defenders in the nation. The coaching staff was also impressed with #25 Chad Hudson. Chad has a big shot from the point on the power play and can dominate the game down low 5 on 5.
Keys to the Sooners
- Capitalize on the power play again
- Clear the hard dumps on the PK
- Stay away from Hoffman with the puck, pick on the other defenseman
- Control the puck in all three zones, do not give puck away to them
- Will be a great game, play hard and enjoy the intensity of the game
The game on Sunday will be broadcast live on the DAN starting with the pre-game show at 11:45pm.
