YPSILANTI, Mich. - The #2 ranked Panthers traveled to Eastern Michigan University for a GLCHL conference matchup on Friday night and came away with a convincing 12-0 win. DU improves to 16-3 on the year and 5-1 in league action.
The Panthers came out with a lot of energy in the first period . Davenport's speed was too much for the home town Eagles as they found themselves in the penalty box four times in the opening twenty minutes. Davenport's power play threw a lot of pucks at the net but could not put one behind starting Eagles Net-minder Rob Curit.
Davenport's fifth year senior Bobby Collar (Brighton, Mich.) got DU on the board 7:28 into the first period. The Panther's continued to pepper the Eagles net throwing 23 shots to their opponent's five by the end of the opening period.
The second period was all Panthers as they continued the offensive pressure. Davenport posted 32 shots on net scoring six times. Sean McWhorter (Lansing, Mich.) netted a pair of tallies while DU also received goals from Jonathon Juliano (Clinton Twp, Mich.), Sean McKenzie (Howell, Mich.), Jonathon Frank (Wallingford, Conn.) and Adam Gillikin (Canton, Mich.). The second period ended with a score of 7-0 and the shot total was 55-10.
The third period the Panther's continued the pressure adding another 24 shots on net for a game total of 79. Davenport added five more tallies in the third to win the game 12-0. Third period goals came from McWhorter (to complete the hat-trick), Brit Ouellette (Windsor, Ontario), Collar, Adam Kuhn (Southgate, Mich.) and Matt Morang (Dearborn, Mich.).
The #2 nationally ranked Panthers will play the Eastern Michigan Eagles tomorrow for a matinée game at 4:00pm. Davenport returns home for a rare 12:00 pm game on Sunday vs. the #4 ranked team in the country the University of Oklahoma Sooners. The Panthers beat the Sooners in Oklahoma 6-5 in OT two weeks ago.
