D1 Completes Weekend Sweep of Eastern Michigan with 10-2 Win

Panthers outscore Eagles 22-2 in two games

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – DU heads into their showdown with #4 Oklahoma on Sunday by finishing off a sweep of GLCHL foe Eastern Michigan with a 10-2 win on Saturday. Davenport will host the Sooners ay 12:00pm at Patterson Ice Center on Sunday.
 
The Panthers laced them up for the 2nd game of the weekend series with the Eastern Michigan Eagles. Davenport came out on fire scoring six unanswered goals in the first period. Kevin Brojek (Sterling Heights, Mich.) started it off for the Panthers scoring on the power play as the junior picked up his first goal of the year. Davenport opened the flood gates with tallies from Jonathon Juliano (Clinton Twp, Mich.), Tyler Forbes (Toronto, Ontario)with a pair, Matt Morang (Dearborn, Mich.) and Phil Wendecker (Westland, Mich.).

The second period was sloppy for the visiting Panthers. Even though they put another 23 shots on net, they were outscored 2-1 by the Eagles. The first goal by the Eagles was credited to their net minder Rob Copit. During a delayed penalty on EMU the Panthers tried to make a pass to the point which went all the way down the ice entering their empty net as Joe D'Elia (Toronto, Ontario) was en route to the Davenport bench. The Panthers picked it back up in the third scoring three more times. Morang notched another goal to go along with tallies from Justin Smith (Sarnia, Ontario) and Ben Dykstra (Kentwood, Mich.).
