GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) slate for basketball kicks off earlier than ever on Wednesday as the conference's expansion forced league contests before the Christmas holiday.  Davenport will take on UM-Dearborn with the men staying at home while the women travel looking for their 5th straight crown.

After adding Northwestern Ohio to the conference last summer, the conference was forced to move its league start to early December and that will mark the first time that has happened in the 18 years of play.  Davenport gets things started with the Wolves of UM-Dearborn.

Head coach Burt Paddock and his #6 ranked Panthers will host Dearborn at 7:30pm at the Student Center.  Davenport is currently averaging 89.7 points per game while holding their opponents to just 67 per contest.  Nathan Cox (Flushing, Mich.) is leading the team with 19.4 points while James Nelson (New Haven, Mich.) is hauling in 7.0 rebounds per game.

Davenport, which started the season ranked #11 in the NAIA poll, recently moved to #6 after their 9-0 start that featured wins over currently ranked #23 Huntington and #26 IU-East.

Head coach Mark Youngs and his Lady Panthers have played a brutal early season schedule that featured only three home games and six matchups against NAIA D1 opponents. The team started the year with a bang by defeating #21 Hastings and #23 Briar Cliff and followed it with four wins over NAIA D1 opponents that were either ranked in Top-25 or receiving votes.

Davenport is averaging a sizzling 93 points per contest and have forced their opponents into 26.9 turnovers per game while limiting them to just 73 points. Kallie Benike (Campbellsport, Wis.) leads the team in scoring as the All-American is averaging 15.1 points and 6.9 rebounds per night.

All games this conference season will be broadcast live on the DAN and all home games will feature live stats and live chat to go along with the play by play from Ken Clemens (Women's) and Gene Halbert (Men's).
