Panthers even season series with Bulldogs as they hold Adrian shotless in the 3rd

Game Scoring

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Panthers' puck possession proved too difficult to overcome for the #5 Adrian Bulldogs as Tyler Forbes, Jonathon Juliano and Matt Morang all scored boasting DU's record to 15-3 on the season and 3-1 in the GLCHL.

The first period featured big hits from each squad as both looked to set the tempo. The Panthers drew first blood as Tyler Forbes' (Toronto, Ontario) errant slot-pass found the back of the pad of the Adrian goaltender, sliding just barely over the line. The Bulldogs would respond, however, as an Adrian forward buried a bouncing rebound past the sprawling Phil Graveline (Marshall, Mich.) in the final minute. The Panthers outshot the visitors by a 21-9 tally in the opening frame.

The second period saw the Bulldogs tighten up defensively, but in doing so, found themselves starting a parade to the box. The potent Panther powerplay made them pay as Jonathon Juliano (Clinton Twp, Mich.) ripped a shot from the right circle, beating the goalie on the near side. Juliano's 8th goal of the season proved to be the game-winner, coming almost at the halfway marker of the period. The Panthers were successful in killing off multiple Bulldog powerplays en route to shutting out the visitors in the second period.

The final period was highlighted by the superb defensive effort by the Panthers as the defense didn't allow a shot on Graveline. The Panthers, in turn, threw nine shots on goal, one of which, fired by Matt Morang (Dearborn, Mich.), gave the Panthers the well-needed insurance goal. Juliano began the play by entering the Bulldog zone and saucing a pass to the streaking Sean McWhorter (Lansing, Mich.) down the left wing. McWhorter gave an equally beautiful pass to an open Moran at the top of the crease, and the Panther attacker made no mistake, burying it top shelf, putting DU on top for good.

Graveline remains perfect in his collegiate career, posting his 9th straight victory. Graveline made one highlight-worthy save as he single-handedly fought off a Bulldog one-timer as he slid across the crease, denying Adrian a beautiful 2-on-1 goal. The Panthers ended the game firing 41 shots on goal, while only allowing 17.

The Panthers return to the ice next Friday as they travel to Ypsilanti to take on the Eastern Michigan Eagles in the weekend series.
