ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland scored the first two goals in just over five minutes of play and never looked back as they took the opening game of the "Good Luck Duck" series on Friday night 6-3.  DU was able to tie the score at 2-2 after one period, but the Grizzlies rattled off four straight for the 3-goal win.

In what has become one of the biggest rivalries in ACHA hockey, Davenport and Oakland renewed their annual Good Luck Duck series on Friday at the Onyx.  Unfortunately for the Panthers, the host Grizzlies were up to the task early as they jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead.

DU came back strong though in the first as they got goals from Kevin Brojek (Sterling Heights, Mich.) and Justin Smith (Sarnia, Ontario).  Also collecting points on the assists were Bobby Collar (Brighton, Mich.), Adam Kuhn (Southgate, Mich.) and Kyle McDowell (Toronto, Ontario).  The score would remain tied headed into the first intermission.

The two teams then played pretty evenly for the first 10 minutes of the second, but the Grizzlies got the go-ahead goal with nine minutes remaining and added two more to take a commanding 5-2 lead into the final period.

Things just got worse for Davenport right out of the gates in the final 20 minutes of play as OU scored their fourth straight goal to go up 6-2 and only a Matt Morang (Dearborn, Mich.) score would make the score a little more repectable for DU.

The loss is just the second in conference play for Davenport as they fall to 21-5 on the year and 8-2 in the GLCHL.  The two teams will hit the ice at Patterson on Saturday night beginning with a 7:30 pm face-off.  You can listen to the game live on the DAN.
