GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - In four games during GLCHL play, Davenport outscored the Eagles of Eastern Michigan by a combined score of 49-7. The last victory came on Saturday night as the Panthers exploded for 8 third period goals to easily defeat EMU 14-4. DU will return to the ice next week as they renew the "Good Luck Duck Series" with Oakland.
After a 12-1 victory on Friday that saw two different players record hat-tricks, the Panthers returned to the ice tonight and really did not get the offense going until the third period.
Davenport lead 4-2 after one and 6-3 after two, but it was eight third period tallies that cemented the season sweep.
In the first, DU got a pair of goals from
Adam Kuhn (Southgate, Mich.) as well as
Kyle McDowell (Toronto, Ontario) and
Jonathon Frank (Wallingford, Conn.). EMU got two of their own, one via power play and one on a puck that hit off two sticks to get by DU netminder
Joe D'Elia (Toronto, Ontario).
The second period started with the Eagles getting within one at 4-3 with 5:14 to play, but DU came back just 8 seconds later with a
Sean McWhorter goal to push the lead back to two goals on assists from
Matt Morang (Dearborn, Mich.) and
Jonathon Juliano (Clinton Twp, Mich.). Kuhn finished the period with his third goal of the night to put DU on top 6-3.
The third period was all Davenport as they used eight goals compared to only one from the Eagles to post the 14-4 win.
Davenport will now open their annual "Good Luck Duck Series" with Oakland University next weekend in Rochester when they take on the Grizzlies at the Onyx on Friday before returning home to Patterson on Saturday. Stay tuned for a weekend preview as well as a video preview from coach Lowden.
