Rugby Closes Out Home Season with 43-12 Win over Northwestern

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Rugby team got back on the winning track today after a disappointing Saturday in Ohio last week with an impressive 43-12 win over visiting Northwestern University. DU improves to 11-3 on the year and will take part in the GR Collegiate Cup next Saturday.

A low scoring first half saw Davenport take a 19-5 lead into the lockeroom but then DU accounted for 24 points in the second half while allowing only seven for the 43-12 win.

Erin Hillary (Grand Rapids, Mich.) got things started with a try only 1:30 into the game and the Panthers followed with two more from Griffin Benson (Traverse City, Mich.) and Sionekami Polume (New Guinea) for the 19-5 lead at the break.

Peter Soukrasmy (Holland, Mich.) was successful on two of the three attempts in the opening half.

Cody Orszula (Lake Odessa, Mich.) then got the scoring going again in the second half which was closely followed by a try from Brendan Foley (Grand Rapids, Mich.).

The final points of the day came from Hillary again as the Panthers rolled to the 43-12 win.

DU will now take part in the GR Collegiate Cup at Douglas Walker Park next Saturday in Byron Center. Davenport will take on Western Michigan and Central Michigan.
