MONTGOMERY, Ala. - In search of their first win of the young season, the Panthers fought hard against #17 Auburn Montgomery on the road today but could not hold a late lead as they fell 3-2.  Davenport will head home before taking on Trinity International (Ill.) on Tuesday.

After falling 2-1 in their season opener on Saturday night against Lee, the second opponent did not get any easier as they took on perennial NAIA power Auburn Montgomery who entered the contest ranked #17 in the country.

The host Senators got on the board first in the 10th minute only to see Davenport tie the score at 1-1 when Jordan Richards (Northampton, England) scored on an unassisted goal with just under seven minutes to play in the opening half and the score remained the same headed into the break.

Having already played a game the night before, the DU legs started to wear a little in the second half, but DU got the next goal to go up 2-1 when Ricco Mulero (Grand Rapids, Mich.) put away a header on a free kick from Jai Maw (Macclesfield, England) in the 54th minute.

The lead would be short-lived however as AUM came right back just over five minutes later to even the score back at 2-2.  After playing a majority of the second half solidly, the Panthers then allowed what would be the game winning goal in the 77th minute.

DU did create a few chances down the stretch but the host Senators escaped with their season opening win.

Kevin O'Brien (Cork, Ireland) took the loss in net for DU as the sophomore made 10 saves on the day.

DU will now travel to Trinity International on Tuesday before taking on University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) on Thursday.  The Panthers open their home slate on Saturday when they welcome Mt. Vernon Nazarene to the Turf Field.
