WENTZVILLE, Mo. - Davenport rebounded from a tough loss on Friday night in a shootout to down the host Lions of Lindenwood 3-2 on Saturday evening. DU got a third period goal from
Sean McWhorter that proved to be the game winner to improve to 3-1-0 on the year.
Two of the top teams in all of ACHA hockey came back to the ice tonight after an epic series opener on Friday that saw the host Lions prevail in a shootout 3-2.
Lindenwood, which entered the game having garnered the #1 ranking in the pre-season ACHA D-1 poll, got the scoring started in the opening period at the 10:15 mark to take a 1-0 lead. Davenport however came right back just before the end of the first when
Ben Dykstra (Kentwood, Mich.) scored a power-play goal to tie the game at 1-1.
Jeff Slusser (Kentwood, Mich.) and
Brit Ouellette (Windsor, Ontario) were credited with the assists.
Looking to take their first lead in two games against LU, the Panthers came out fast in the second period and scored just over five minutes in as
Kyle McDowell (Toronto, Ontario) put DU on top 2-1. Ouellette once again assisted on the play as did
Jonathon Juliano (Clinton Twp, Mich.).
The fast play continued into the final period and Davenport put even more distance between them and the home team when
Sean McWhorter (Lansing, Mich.) scored with exactly 10 minutes remaining as the Panthers then led 3-1.
A late goal from Lindenwood with their goalie pulled made the score 3-2, but the Panthers hung on for a big road victory early in the season.
