Box Score

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - A slow start was not enough to keep the Lady Panthers from winning their third straight league match with a 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-18) over host Concordia University. DU will stay on the road on Sunday as they face new WHAC foe Northwestern Ohio in Lima.

After a convincing 4-set win over arch-rival Cornerstone on Tuesday, the Lady Panthers hit the road once again and came away with their 12th win in 18 matches this year.  Davenport struggled mightily on offense in the opening set as they posted 10 hitting errors compared to only seven kills while falling 25-22.

The second set started out very similar to the first as DU again struggled to get going but after tying the score at 11-11, the Lady Panthers went on a 8-3 run to take firm control.  Along the run, DU got kills from four different players, Joyce Larioza (Fowlerville, Mich.), Amy VanEns (Lowell, Mich.), Kelse Moon (Fremont, Mich.) and Nicole Chase (Caledonia, Mich.).

With momentum on their side, Davenport took the early lead in the important third set and never trailed after an error by Concordia made the score 7-6 in favor of DU. The Lady Panthers finished the set by collecting 12 kills on just 34 attempts. Getting a boost from junior Amy VanEns (Lowell, Mich.), DU was able to build momentum and pull out the victory 25-20.

The final set was again dominated by Davenport as they put up 15 more kills while holding the Cardinals to just nine and a hitting percentage of .029 as they finished off the home team 25-20.

Freshman Nicole Chase (Caledonia, Mich.) had an outstanding day as the middle hitter finished with 14 kills while hitting at a .571 clip.  Joyce Larioza (Fowlerville, Mich.) chipped in with 8 kills to go along with her 9 assist blocks and 1 solo.  Senior Kayla Vandermolen (Cedar Springs, Mich.) finished the day with 37 assists and four kills.

Davenport will travel to Lima, OH for a matchup with Northwestern Ohio on Sunday,  The Racers are currently 13-5 overall and 5-1 in league action.
