GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – James Nelson became the second DU player this year to join the 1,000 point club with 17 points in DU's 76-68 WHAC victory over Northwestern Ohio. Three different players scored in double-figure helping the #16 Panthers improve to 17-3 on the year and 4-2 in WHAC play.

To start the game Northwestern Ohio would jump out to a 5-1 lead. Each team would trade baskets before a James Humphrey (Fort Wayne, Ind.) dunk would even the score at 7-7. Humphrey would add two free throws the following play to give DU the 9-7 lead and control of play the rest of the game.

Before halftime the Panthers would push their lead to as many as 12 before a final second three-pointer from Northwestern's Isaac Bowers would cut the lead to just 9 at half.

With many of their shots not falling from behind the arc, in the second half DU would rely heavily on their inside play combining for 48 points in the paint on the night. The Panthers would maintain a double digit lead for most of the second, with UNOH getting as close as seven twice in the half.

Nathan Cox (Flushing, Mich.) would lead all scorers with 25 points shooting a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line and 9-14 from the field. James Humphrey (Fort Wayne, Ind.) would have a solid game as well finishing with a 13 rebounds and 23 points on the night. Rounding out the double digit scoring would be James Nelson (New Haven, Mich.) who needed just five points coming into the game to reach 1,000, and he would finish with 17 overall.

Davenport will be back in action on Saturday, January 15th when they host Aquinas College for a 3:00pm WHAC match-up. The Panthers will be looking for revenge as the Saints upset DU twice last year on their home court.
