HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Davenport women's volleyball team completed their Indiana week with a tri-match at Huntington University. They posted two victories bringing their overall record to 12-7 on the season.
In the first match of the day, it was all Davenport as they defeated Purdue North Central 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-12). The Lady Panther defense played very tough holding PNC to a -.104 hitting percentage. Leading the charge on defense was
Belma Alic with 14 digs, followed by
Kassie Graves with 11.
The second match featured the Panthers against a feisty Huntington squad. Davenport took the early lead in set one and led by as many as 9 at 20-11 after a block by
Nicole Chase and Graves. The Foresters put together a run off two DU errors and a kill to make it close. However, the Panther attack, which hit .355 in the first, was too tough as they closed out the first 25-19.
Set two began with two runs of four points by each team. After that no team saw a lead greater than two points until Huntington went up 22-19. Two Huntington errors brought the Panthers back within one. The teams exchanged kills to make it 23-22, but the DU comeback was not to be after a service error and an attack error gave the set to Huntington by a score of 25-22.
Neither team was able to produce much offensively in the third set, but Davenport came out on top 25-20 by capitalizing on errors from Huntington. The fourth set remained close at the start, but tough serving from
Ashley Hines (2 aces),
Heather Deal (4 aces), and Chase (3 aces) allowed the Panthers to pull away and finish off the match with a 25-14 victory.
