BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - The Davenport Volleyball team had a strong start at the Olivet Nazarene Invitational today, but lost to the host Tigers in the second match of the day. Their overall record is now 16-9. They will continue tomorrow with two matches against Wayland Baptist and Grand View.
The Panthers defeated Oklahoma City University in their first match of the day 25-14, 25-16, 27-25. Davenport came out of the gates very fast. Tough serving, tenacious defense, and an efficient offense were keys to the victory.
Heather Deal contributed 3 aces. Defensively
Lexie Spetoskey reached double digits with 10 digs. At the net, the Panthers notched 10 total blocks. On offense the team hit .240 as a group with Graves leading the way with 17 kills.
In the second match, Davenport lost a 4-set decision to Olivet Nazarene 25-14, 25-12, 16-25, 25-14. The Tigers dominated in the first two sets as DU struggled to get their offense rolling. The Panthers turned the tides in the third set hitting .367, but was not able to complete the comeback.
Kassie Graves had another solid match with 12 kills.
Courtney DePriest and
Lexie Spetoskey led the defense with 17 and 14 kills, respectively.
