Game Summary | Game Stats

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Davenport overcame a slow start to rout the Hoosiers of Indiana 52-5 on Saturday. Jean Pierre Eloff scored three tries and Gabe Sochanek scored twice to help the Panthers to the win. Davenport improves to 4-0 with the win and will next be in action on Oct. 22 when they host Miami Ohio.

Davenport couldn't get things going early, struggling to get the ball into Indiana territory. The Panthers were helped out by a missed Indiana penalty kick a few minutes into the game that kept the score knotted at 0-0.

JP Eloff got Davenport on the board with a penaty kick with 14:47 left in the half.

Just before the end of the first half, Gabe Sochanek was able to get into the try-zone for Davenport. After the conversion by JP Eloff, the Panthers led 10-0.

Davenport came out completely different in the second half. Travis Kamstra scored just two minutes into the half to push the Panthers lead to 17-0.

JP Eloff then scored the next two Davenport tries in a two minute span and after he made both conversion, Davenport led Indiana 31-0 ten minutes into the second half.

Indiana got on the board with 15 minutes left in the game with a try but failed to make the conversion to cut the Davenport lead to 31-5.

Less than a minute after the Indiana try, Gabe Sochanek scored his second try of the day to extend the Davenport lead to 33. JP Eloff and Angus MacLellan each added a try in the last five minutes of play to give Davenport their third straight game of scoring over 50 points.

JP Eloff went 4-4 on conversions and 1-1 on penalty kicks. Nick Glocke also made all three of his conversion attempts.

Davenport will face two of their toughest opponents in the next two weeks. On Oct. 22 Davenport will host Miami Ohio and then on Oct. 29 Davenport will host Bowling Green State.

Post-Game Quotes - Head Coach Kruger Van Biljon

On defense keeping DU in game while offense struggled at start - "We knew coming in that IU would be tough and would stretch our defense to the extreme. The structures we put in place showed today that if we execute them correctly then they will work. I think our defense structure helped us settle down and weather the storm. Once we settled down and looked at what they had to offer on offense we adapted our defense to keep up."

On halftime adjustments that led to 42 second half points - "The first half we didn't play as a team and there were a lot of little things we didn't execute right. At halftime, my words to the guys was to play our game and our structures. We sped the game up and played the explosive style we wanted to."
