Malone Box Score | Rochester Box Score

LIVONIA, Mich. – At the first day of the Crusader Classic hosted by Madonna University, the Davenport volleyball team went 1-1.  They began the day with a 3-set loss to Malone, but ended with a 3-set win over Rochester.  Play continues tomorrow against Savannah College of Art and Design and No. 19 Bellevue.

Davenport lost a heartbreaking first set to Malone 24-26 and couldn't regain momentum as they lost the next two 11-25 and 19-25.  Malone had their way on offense hitting .291 as a team.  For Davenport Nicole Chase led the offense with 8 kills.  Kassie Graves chipped in 8 as well, along with 12 digs.

The Panthers got little time to regroup as they faced Rochester College right away.  Facing them for the second time this season, they had a similar result winning 25-18, 25-18, 25-23.  Davenport owned the first two sets, but had to fight for the third.  Rochester started to get their offense rolling, but the Panthers responded hitting .372 in the final set.

On offense, Brittany Bott notched 13 kills on a .480 hitting percentage.  Hannah Stone was close behind with 11 kills and a .450 hitting percentage.  Lexie Spetoskey led the defense with 11 digs.  Serving was a critical factor in getting Rochester out of system.  Ashley Hines served 5 of the teams 7 total aces.

Davenport will be back on the court at 9:30 a.m. as they face SCAD.  They will battle No. 19 Bellevue right after that at 11:30.  The Panthers are now 19-11 on the season.

Post-Match Quotes– Head Coach Megan Garner

“Unfortunately we did not start today with enough focus or intensity and missed an opportunity to really battle against Malone.  The team rebounded quickly and played very solid against Rochester.  We are hoping to carry on that consistency against SCAD and Bellevue tomorrow.”
