Davenport Falls to SCAD and No. 21 Bellevue on Day 2 of Crusader Classic

LIVONIA, Mich. - The volleyball team continued their strong schedule today at the Madonna Crusader Classic as they were defeated in straight sets by SCAD-Savannah and No. 21 Bellevue.  The pair of setbacks drops the Panthers overall record to 19-13 with a pair of league contests scheduled at home next week.

After going 1-1 on Friday of the Crusader Classic hosted by league foe Madonna University, the DU squad returned Saturday against some of the best competition of the season.  The morning match saw the Panthers fall in three close sets to SCAD-Savannah 25-21, 25-22. 25-22. 

Leading the way offensively for Davenport was Brittany Bott who finished with 13 kills while Jen Brunnink posted seven kills on just 13 attempts. Freshman Amber Getty dished out 19 assists while Courtney DePriest was the dig leader with 15.

The second match saw Davenport face another ranked opponent, this time the No. 21 Bellevue Bruins.  DU entered the match looking for their first win ever over a Top 25 opponent but the Bruins were too strong winning 25-23, 25-14, 25-18. No player finished with more than six kills as Kelse Moon led the attack.  Bellevue outhit DU .203 - .059 while DePriest stood out in the backrow with a team high 19 digs.

Davenport will return home for their final three regular season matches beginning Wednesday when they host Siena Heights at 7:00pm.  DU will also take on Madonna University on Friday, October 28 at 7:00pm.

Davenport falls to 9-5 this season when playing on a neutral floor…The Panthers final three matches of the regular season will be played in the DU Student Center where they have not lost this season…All three of those matches will be broadcast live on the Davenport Athletics Network (DAN)...Brittany Bott was named to the All-Tournament Team
