Video Highlights
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -
Lance Cavanaugh had three tries while
Mason Baum,
Ryan Hargraves and
Jean Pierre Eloff each added a pair to lift the Panthers to a convincing 75-0 win over Ohio State on Saturday afternoon. Davenport scored 35 in the first half and followed with 40 more in the second for their third straight win of the fall season.
The two teams entered as ones to watch for in Division 1 and the Premeir Division but Davenport quickly put themselves in charge with a try from
Gabe Sochanek after only 55 seconds of play.
Jean Pierre Eloff converted the two points for the 7-0 lead and the rout was on.
From the 23:45 mark to the end of the first half, DU scored four more times with tries from
Ryan Hargraves,
Travis Kamstra and two from Eloff for the 35-0 halftime lead. The scoring started immediately in the second as well and DU got a second from Baum and Hargraves as well as three from
Lance Cavanaugh.
The defense held tough and despite a slow performance from the first score to the 20 minute mark, the Panthers dominated every part of the game. Eloff ended 10-11 on conversions and the only aspect that went Ohio State's way was that he missed a pair of penalty goals which would have made the score worse.
DU will face Indiana next weekend in Bloomington. Game time is set for 12:00pm on October 15.
Post-Game Quotes - Head coach Kruger VanBiljon and
Lance Cavanaugh
VanBiljon on 75-0 win over Ohio State - "I knew coming in that OSU would take their game to a new level but scoring fast helped and then we struggled for the next 10 minutes...Overall although there is too much individual stuff but today's team play was pretty good and there is a lot of things to work on still."
Cavanaugh on today's performance - "I feel like we played excellent as we knew coming in we had to get the maximum number of points for our league table...To get the three tries was enexplainable but it is all teamwork as they set me up for it and I was just happy to finish."
Post-Game Notes
Davenport is now 2-1 all-time against Ohio State as they have won the last two meetings...Through three games so far in the fall season, the Panthers have outscored their opponents by a margin of 175-21...DU will look to stay perfect all-time against Indiana next weekend as they defeated them twice last season.
