GRAND RAPIDS Mich.- Davenport fell to 4-6 on the year Thursday night as they lost to #3 Arizona State.
Blake Damerow netted both goals for the Panthers. Davenport will be back on the ice Friday night as they face #2 Lindenwood for the homecoming game.
Thursday's night game was controlled by defense early on in the 1
st period. The Sun Devils Liam Norris opened the scoring with a goal 17:23 into the 1
st period. Just 1:12 later the Sun Devils struck again as Colin Hekle netted a power play goal.
The Panthers couldn't find an answer for the Sun Devils early on in the 2
nd period. Arizona took a 3-0 lead on a goal from Dave Jantzie. 32 seconds later Davenport was able to get on the scoreboard on a wrap around goal from
Blake Damerow.
Kevin Noble and
Zack Blumke were credited with the assist on the play. The Panthers rally was quickly stopped as ASU as they netted two more goals in the period and took a 5-1 lead into the 3
rd period.
Damerow scored his second goal of the game 5: 28 into the 3
rd period with the assist coming from
Dustin Wischmeyer. The Panthers continued to put good pressure on the Sun Devils but were unable to put another puck past ASU goalie Mark Schacker.
In net for the Panthers was
Phil Graveline. Graveline stopped 35 of the 40 shots he faced. Davenport will be back in action on Friday at 8:00pm as they face #2 Lindenwood.
