Box Score
MISHAWAKA, Ind. - Davenport's twelve game winning streak came to a screeching halt today as they fell 70-59 to No. 18 Cardinal Stritch in the second game of the Bethel College Gates Automotive Classic. The loss is the first of the season for the No. 3 Panthers as they return to league play on Saturday night at 7:30 in Ann Arbor against Concordia University.
In a low scoring game, only two Panther players found double-digits led by
James Nelson's 19 and
Damacious White's 18. DU managed to shoot only 40% (20/50) from the field. The Wolves struggled from the field as well making only 38% (22/57) but the 18
th ranked team finished 22-31 from the free-throw line.
Davenport held a 17-9 advantage midway through the opening half only to see the Wolves go on an 8-0 to tie the score at the 8:27 mark. After increasing the lead to as many as nine again in the first half, DU struggled late and led by only two (33-31) heading into the locker room.
An early 4-0 run by Stritch gave the Wolves their first lead of the game and it would be one they would never relinquish as they led by as many as 16 late in the second half. DU did manage to get within nine with under 7:00 to play but they never got over that hump eventually falling by 11.
Davenport will look to regroup on Saturday as they return to league action at Concordia University for a 7:30pm tip against the Cardinals.
