Game Scoring
ROCHESTER, Mich. – Davenport took a big step towards keeping the “Good Luck Duck” on Friday night in Rochester as the Panthers defeated Oakland 7-2. The win gives DU a 2-1 lead in the season series and have a chance to clinch it with a win on Saturday at 7:30pm at Patterson.
Sean McWhorter (Lansing, Mich.) recorded four points with three helpers and one goal as Davenport dominated their rival on the road.
The opening period was all Davenport as they looked to take a leg up in the season series with their rival Grizzlies. At the 12:48 mark of the first, the Panthers struck on one three first period goals when Brit Ouellette (Windsor, Ontario) scored on assists from Adam Kuhn (Southgate, Mich.) and Matt Morang (Dearborn, Mich.).
The lead would be short-lived however as the Grizzlies tied the game up at 1-1 just 42 seconds later. The Panthers however quickly regrouped themselves and added two more goals before the first intermission with Jonathan Juliano (Clinton Twp, Mich.) and Jeff Slusser (Kentwood, Mich.) each getting in the goal column.
Opening the second period, DU got a huge goal only a few minutes in from Brandon Davis (Hartland, Mich.) as Kyle McDowell (Toronto, Ontario) and Sean McWhorter picked up the helpers. As Oakland got into penalty trouble, it looked as if DU would extend their lead but it was the Grizzlies who got the next tally with a short-handed goal with 5:44 remaining in the period.
The Panthers then put the game on cruise control with an early goal in the third period from Bo Jacobs (Twin Lakes, Mich.) on a nice pass from Sean McWhorter. Two late goals from Davis and Sean McWhorter (Lansing, Mich.) finished off the scoring.
Joe D'Elia (Toronto, Ontario) came up with some big saves during the middle of the final period as he ended up getting the win in net improving his season record to 14-6.
Davenport will host Oakland on Saturday night at Patterson Ice Center. Face-off is set for 7:30pm as DU looks to claim the “Good Luck Duck” for the fourth straight season. Live audio will be provided by DU as well as live stats.
