Game Scoring
ADRIAN, Mich. - The Panthers rebounded from an early two-goal deficit to upend the host Adrian Bulldogs 4-3 in a shootout late Thursday night to take a 2-1 lead in the season series. DU is now 31-7 on the year and 14-3 in conference play.
The first period began with a barrage of Bulldog chances resulting in Adrian taking a 1-0 lead early in the contest. While the Panthers were given opportunities, especially on a 5-minute powerplay, DU was unable to put a goal past the Adrian netminder. In a swift turn of momentum, the host squad netted another goal shortly after killing off the Davenport man advantage, entering the second period up 2-0.
Having regrouped, the Panthers began the second frame strong, outscoring the Bulldogs 3-1.
Jonathan Juliano (Clinton Twp, Mich.), leading scorer in the ACHA, unleashed a shot that found its way through a crowd and off multiple bodies from the blue line to get the Panthers on the board. However, Adrian wasted no time responding as the GLCHL's first-place team scored 8 seconds later off the ensuing faceoff, Not deterred by the setback, DU received goals from
Jeff Slusser (Kentwood, Mich.) and
Brit Ouellette (Windsor, Ontario), both on the powerplay, to even the game at three after 40 minutes of play.
Both teams skated to a physical tie through the final period and overtime. As ACHA Division I rules madate, a three-man shooutout was to ensue.
The Panthers prevailed in the shootout by a score of 2-0 as
Phil Graveline made two beautiful saves while
Adam Kuhn (Southgate, Mich.) and
Brit Ouellette (Windsor, Ontario) both undressed the Bulldog netminder for the victory.
The two teams square off again on Saturday evening at Patterson Ice Center. Live stats will be available and Paul Stabile has the call on the DAN.
