Game Scoring
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A late goal off a tough break for DU gave the No. 4 ranked Adrian Bulldogs a 3-2 win over No. 2 Davenport. The Panthers, who got both of their goals from
Brit Ouellette, fall to 31-8 on the year and 14-4 in GLCHL play. DU will play a home and home series with Oakland next weekend which will decide the regular season conference championship.
Davenport entered Friday night's contest looking for a weekend sweep of rival Adrian as Davenport opened the scoring just 3:23 into the opening period when
Brit Ouellette (Windsor, Ontario) took a long pass and beat the Bulldog netminder 1 on 1 to put DU up 1-0.
That would be the only scoring of the opening period as the shots were just 5-4 in favor of the Panthers. Adrian came out of the gate strong in the second period and scored two goals in a five minute span to go into the second intermission with a 2-1 lead.
Davenport was able to come back from a deficit in the win on Thursday and they would need to do the same on Saturday. Ouellette then stepped up big with a sneaky goal at the 12:58 mark of the third to knot the score at 2-2.
The play then became very even until a bad bounce of a DU defender gave Adrian an opportunity in front of netminder
Joe D'Elia (Toronto, Ontario) in which they converted what would turn out to be the game winner with 8:00 remaining in the game.
Davenport had a few good scoring chances down the stretch but could not get one by for the equalizer. The loss makes the two-game series with Oakland that much more important for DU as not only is the Good Luck Duck on the line but the GLCHL regular season title.
Game times next weekend are 8:40 on Friday at the Onyx and 7:30 on Saturday at Patterson. Live stats will be available for both games.
