MADISON, Wis. - The National Tournament is now the main focus for the D1 Rugby team after a convincing 29-0 blanking of Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon in Madison. The Panthers got tries from five different players in the win and will now have two weeks to prepare for the game vs. Minnesota on April 30.
The final regular season game is in the books for Davenport rugby as they jumped out to a 17-0 lead at halftime and cruised to the 29-0 win over the Badgers.
Brendan Foley (Grand Rapids, Mich.) got the scoring started for Davenport and was quickly followed by a try from
Chris Hathaway (Saint Claire Shores, Mich.). After both conversions failed, the Panthers had themselves a 10-0 lead. Late in the half, DU would up their lead to 17-0 when
Cyrus Turner (Chicago, Ill.) scored and
Griffin Benson (Traverse City, Mich.) nailed the conversion.
Trying to get as many players some quality time on the field in the second half did not hurt Davenport as they scored 12 more points for the easy win.
DU got tries from
Jean Pierre Eloff (Pritoria, South Africa)and Benson for the final outcome.
Davenport will now have the next 13 days to prepare for their first ever National Tourney game that will take place in Blaine, Minn. at the National Sports Center.
