STANFORD, Calif. – The Davenport D1 Rugby team, making its first appearance in the National Tournament, defeated Harvard in the Semifinals 62-21. The Panthers will now face the University of California – Santa Barbara in the Championship Saturday at 7:00 PM EST.
In the beginning, it was all Jean Pierre Eloff (Pritoria, South Africa). Eloff got the game started with a penalty kick a few minutes in. A couple minutes later he ran in a try and converted the kick to increase Davenports leads to 10-0.
After another successful penalty kick, JP Eloff scored his second try for Davenport. JP Eloff scored the first 20 points for Davenport.
Davenport added another try and conversion just before the half to extend Davenport's halftime lead to 27-0.
The Panthers didn't slow down in the second half, scoring two quick tries to increase the lead to 41-0.
After Harvard scored their first try of the game to cut Davenport's lead to 41-7, the Panthers answered with a try and conversion to increase the lead back to 41 with 21 minutes left.
Davenport outscored Harvard 21-14 the rest of the way for a 62-21 win. Davenport will take on the University of California – Santa Barbara on Saturday at 7:00 PM in the Championship game of the USA Rugby Division 1 National Tournament.
UCSB advanced to the Championship game by defeating Bowling Green State 30-3. Davenport lost twice, their only two losses, to Bowling Green State this season.
