Panthers Fall to a Tough Rocky Mountain Team 3-0

Box Score

BILLINGS, Mont. – Davenport continued their Montana trip today taking on #18 Rocky Mountain College who was a NAIA National Tournament participant last season. DU would fall 3-0 in straight sets (17-25, 21-25, 16-25) to put them at 0-2 on the year.

DU came out strong to start the game trading points back and forth with Rocky Mountain. With the Panthers down 8-7, Rocky Mountain would sting together a 7-0 run followed by a 6-0 run later in the match. The deficient would be too much for DU as they would fall 17-25.

In the second set Davenport picked up the first three points and would once again continue to trade points back and forth. DU maintained a lead up until the 11-11 point when two kills by Rocky Mountain and a DU error gave the host team a 14-11 lead in which the Panthers couldn't overcome falling 21-25 in set two.

After two tough sets fatigue and frustration appeared in the third set with DU quickly falling behind 13-2. The set would end in Rocky Mountain's favor 16-25 and give them the their fifth victory of the year.

Kassie Graves would account for almost half of DU's kills on the night with 12, and Lexie Spetoskey led the assists category with 13. Kelse Moon (12), Courtney DePriest (13) and Graves (14) topped the digs category on the night for DU as well.

Coach Garner's Comments:

"We knew our first two opponents were going to be tough, but we have played extremely hard and are doing a lot of positive things against some quality opponents.  Despite the losses we are right where we should be and are excited for more new opponents this weekend."
