BILLINGS, Mont. – Davenport concluded the Rocky Mountain College tournament today, posting victories over Montana Tech (3-0) and Montana Western (3-1). The Panthers now sit at 3-3 on the season heading into their home open on Wednesday.
After recording their first victory yesterday against Montana State Northern in five sets, DU only needed three sets in their first match to pick up win number two over Montana Tech. The straight set victory (25-13, 25-19, 25-13) is the first of the season for the Panthers.
On the match the Panthers hit 21% from the floor while forcing 28 errors from Montana Tech and holding them to a -.082 kill percentage.
Kassie Graves led the offensive attack once again hitting 39% with 12 kills.
Courtney DePriest recorded 11 digs and
Lexie Spetoskey 19 assists.
DU's final opponent of the Rocky Mountain College Tournament, Montana Western, put up a small fight toward the beginning of the match forcing Davenport to put together numerous come from behind runs. The Panthers found themselves victorious in the first set 25-21 but then fell in set two 25-21 to even up the match at one set a piece.
Falling just short in set two gave the Panthers the push they needed to focus in and finish out the next two sets. In set three DU recorded 14 kills and had a kill percentage of 50%, their best of the season, in route to a 25-9 victory and then the Panthers closed out the match in the fourth set 25-14.
Against Montana Western the offense was led by
Brittany Bott with 13 kills and Graves with 12. Freshman
Amber Getty (16) and Spetoskey (17) both finished with double digit assists and Graves was also the leader in the digs category with 17 right ahead of DePriest's 15.
Today's matches concluded DU's weeklong trip to Montana in which they recorded a record of 3-3. The Panthers will return to action on August 31st when they host Indiana University South Bend in their home opener. Game time is set for 7:00pm and live video and live stats will be available for the contest.
