BILLINGS, Mont. – On day two of the Rocky Mountain College tournament, Davenport would pick up their first win of the season over Montana State Northern in a tight 3-2 victory. DU would face host #18 Rocky Mountain for the second straight night in game two and would fall victim to their explosive offense once again 0-3.
Davenport and Montana State Northern would trade sets to force a fifth set after posting scores of 25-17, 12-25, 25-20 and 17-25. After falling behind 0-2 to start the fifth set DU would string together a 15-4 run to propel them to a 15-6 victory.
DU was led in the match on offense by juniors Kassi Graves and
Brittany Bott who both posted double digits in the kills category. Freshman
Amber Getty dished out 22 assists while
Kelse Moon led the defense with 20 digs.
In their second match of the day DU would use the momentum from their previous game to come out strong in the first set against #18 Rocky Mountain. The Panthers led by as many as six but would be unable to hold on late and fall in set one 23-25.
Set one was as close at DU came to the host school as they dropped the next two sets as well 13-25 and 18-25. The loss was the second straight to Rocky Mountain College and sixth straight set to a very talented Frontier League team.
Bott and Graves led the kills category once again with eight each.
Lexie Spetoskey contributed 12 assists and
Courtney DePriest led the defense talling 19 digs.
Davenport is now 1-3 on the season and will conclude their Montana trip tomorrow when they return to Rocky Mountain College to take on Montana Tech at 11:00am and the University of Montana-Western at 1:00pm. Live stats will be available for both matches.
