GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Kelse Moon and Brittany Bott each finished with double digits in kills and digs as they led a balanced attack to defeat visiting Concordia 3-1 (25-19, 25-19, 24-26, 25-20) in the league opener for both schools.  Davenport is now 9-6 on the year with an away date set for next Wednesday at No. 9 Indiana Tech.

Davenport used timely runs in the opening two sets, struggled in the third and hung on in the fourth for a 3-1 win in their WHAC opener.  The win lifts DU to 2-4 all-time in league openers.

In the opener, DU held their largest lead at 20-14 when junior Brittany Bott put away her third termination of the set.  Davenport again jumped out early in the second only to see the Cardinals rally to take a 9-8 lead but it would be their last with the Panthers extending it to as many as eight on a service ace from freshman Belma Alic.

After changing the lineup with some significant changes in the third set, DU was unable to overcome some differences on the court and CUAA rallied late to pull out a 26-24 win.  The loss did not hamper the spirits of DU however as they stuck together and won 25-20 in the final set.

Five different Panthers finished with at least six kills as freshman Rebecca Wadsworth led the team in hitting percentage while putting away two balls on just five attempts.  Hannah Stone continued her solid play as the freshman finished with eight kills and four block assists.

Post-Match Quotes - Head Coach Megan Garner and junior Kelse Moon

Garner on adjustments before and during match - Right now we are trying to prepare ourselves for any situation possible down the road so we thought tonight would be a good opportunity to use some different lineups so we are prepared fully for the matches coming up.

On getting off to a 1-0 start in league play - It means everything to be 1-0 and its only the second time we have won our conference opener which gives us a lot of confidence playing at Indiana Tech next Wednesday.

Moon on leading team with 11 kills - I think it was definitely our passing as it got alot better with some switches we made during the game and getting more sets and more chances throughout the game helped.

Moon on 1-0 league start - Keeping our intensity throughout the whole game is important because sometimes we are on a roller coaster and just hitting hard and finding the open spots.
