GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A goal with only 3:39 on the clock in regulation by Saginaw Valley tied the game at 1-1 and that is how it ended with Davenport posting their third draw of the season.  Damian Goncalves recorded the lone Panther goal as DU heads into the league slate with an overall mark of 1-6-3.

Davenport used their final tune-up for WHAC regular season play by taking on NCAA D2 foe Saginaw Valley State who is one of the top teams in the Great Lakes Collegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).  Unfortunately a first half goal from senior Damian Goncalves was not enough to push the Panthers to the victory as they tied the Cardinals 1-1.

After a scoreless first 35 minutes, Davenport got the first goal of the game after a shot by Gerard John-Williams was saved by the Cardinal keeper and Damian came in and cleaned up the loose ball in the box to post his second goal of the season.

Davenport's defense then held tough as Saginaw used an aggressive play to create many chances but unfortunatley a tough break allowed the ball to squirt through and get by Jordan Bandstra in net who came in to relieve starter Kevin O'Brien. The goal tied the game at 1-1 with only 3:39 remaining in regulation.

Saginaw then had two very good chances in the extra 20 minutes of play but Bandstra came up huge with two of his four saves in the game to keep the score tied and that is how it finished.

Post-Game Quotes - Head Coach Carl Whitehouse

On play of Jordan Bandstra - He proved he can come in and get the job done and he made two outstanding saves to help us get the tie.  We have confidence in him and he will do great things in conference play.

On another 2OT draw - That has been the story of our season...Penatlies, late goals allowed, injuries and overtime games are we have been used to.  That is our fifth OT game thus far and now we just need to get over the top and get a W.

Post-Game Notes
