Box Score
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport rebounded from the loss to GVSU last night with a 5-4 win over #15 Adrian. Davenport jumped out to a 2-0 lead, thanks to two goals by Bo Jacobs, only to see Adrian come back and tie the game at three though two periods. Ben Dykstra and Mason Bohlinger each scored in the final period to put away the Bulldogs. Davenport will return to action next week when they host #6 Liberty.
Adrian controlled the puck in the opening minutes of the first period but it was the Panthers who struck first scoring on their first shot of the game when Bo Jacobs found the back of the net. Jacobs added his second goal of the night a few minutes later when he put away the puck from in front of the net off passes from Mason Bohlinger and Blake Damerow.
Similar to last night against GVSU, Davenport struggle in the second period. The Bulldogs got on the board just over a minute into the period. Davenport rebounded with a goal of their own 5:32 later when Taylor Keyworth finished off a pass from behind the net from Bohlinger to push the Panthers lead back out to two.
Adrian finished the second period with two goals by Ryan Bachman, his second and third of the period, to bring the game to a tie at 3-3. Davenport may have been facing a goal deficit heading into the third if it weren't for a great kick save by Phil Graveline off a Adrian two-on-one break late in the period.
Still tied several minutes into the third, Ben Dykstra took the puck the length of the ice and scored a powerplay goal to give the Panthers a 4-3 lead, which Davenport wouldn't give up. Mason Bohlinger gave Davenport some much needed breathing room with 1:28 left in the third scoring to give the Panthers a two goal advantage.
With 23 seconds left, Adrian scored a six-on-four powerplay goal to bring the Bulldogs within one but Davenport wouldn't allow Adrian to get off any more shots to close out the win.
Davenport improves to 14-10 overall and 12-1 in conference play. Davenport will be in action again next weekend when they host #6 Liberty for a pair of games.
